As Qatar marks the 11th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (October 31–November 7, 2026), Yutong is highlighting its continued contribution to the country’s sustainable transportation development through electric mobility, local manufacturing, technical expertise and community engagement.

Over the years, Yutong has worked closely with Qatar’s public transportation company, Mowasalat (Karwa), and national partners to support Qatar’s transition towards cleaner and more efficient public transportation, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Driving the Transition to Electric Mobility

One of Yutong’s most significant contributions to Qatar’s transportation transformation was its role in supporting public mobility during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

In cooperation with Mowasalat, Yutong supplied 1,500 buses, including 888 battery electric buses, providing transportation services for millions of passengers during the tournament. The project demonstrated the potential of large-scale electric public transportation and established an important milestone in Qatar’s journey towards sustainable mobility.

The experience also strengthened Yutong’s expertise in delivering integrated transportation solutions, supported by dedicated technical teams, operational services and vehicle maintenance.

Building Local Manufacturing Capabilities in Qatar

Beyond vehicle supply, Yutong is expanding its contribution through local industrial development.

Through its partnership with Mowasalat, Yutong established Yutong Qatar QFZ LLC at Umm Alhoul Free Zone, creating a foundation for localized electric bus assembly and manufacturing in Qatar.

The project represents an important step in technology transfer, industrial localization and the development of local capabilities. By bringing manufacturing expertise and advanced bus technologies closer to the local market, Yutong aims to contribute to Qatar’s industrial diversification while supporting the development of the wider electric mobility ecosystem.

Supporting Sustainable Transportation Beyond Vehicle Delivery

Yutong’s commitment extends beyond supplying vehicles. Through its ongoing cooperation with Mowasalat, the company continues to provide technical training, genuine spare parts, maintenance expertise and operational support to help ensure vehicle reliability, safety and efficiency throughout their service life.

Recent initiatives have also included specialized technical training for CNG fleet maintenance, reinforcing preventive maintenance practices and supporting the safe operation of alternative-fuel public transportation.

In addition, Yutong continues to explore diversified mobility solutions, including battery electric buses, hybrid technology and efficient public transportation products, responding to the evolving needs of Qatar’s transport sector.

Promoting Sustainability Through Community Engagement

Recognizing that sustainable transportation requires more than technological advancement, Yutong and Mowasalat have also encouraged greater awareness of energy efficiency and responsible driving practices.

In September 2026, the two companies organized the fourth edition of their Energy Saving and New Energy Driving Competition, bringing together bus drivers and technical representatives to promote efficient driving, responsible energy consumption and operational excellence.

The initiative reflects Yutong’s belief that drivers, technicians and transport operators all play an important role in improving the efficiency of public transportation.
